One Bible Study night in June of 2009, my pastor taught a message titled, "Why Won't God Answer [My Prayers]". I knew immediately that there was something very significant about this message because I had just finished writing an article for this website, and that title was “When God Doesn’t Answer”.
During the question and answer session after service, I asked, "What do I do when I've done all that I KNOW to do, and still I'm still struggling to keep up?" Pastor made reference to Matthew 17:27 in which Jesus told Simon Peter to "go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours."
I later looked up the word "drachma" and learned that it is of Greek origin; in its verb tense, it means “to grasp” and it's noun is “graspable” or “handful”.
Pastor told me that it's possible God has already given me the fish, and that I just need to cast out my line. After I went home, I prayed and asked God for wisdom and direction.
I've been into photography for many years. Having developed a love for taking pictures, I would often frame them and give them away as gifts, sometimes superimposing my poetry onto the picture before framing. In response to my prayers the Lord told me to submit some of my photos for consideration in an upcoming local art exhibit. Several weeks later, I received an email congratulating me for one of my photos being selected. In all, over 300 entries had been submitted. As a result of listening to what I believe God was telling me to do, my professionally framed 16 x 20” photo, "Flowing Stream", was on display for the “Gone Fishin’” exhibit at Expressions Gallery for seven weeks! The gallery is located at 2035 Ashby Avenue in Berkeley, CA and the exhibit ran from August 15 through October 2.
